As you may have noticed there has been a significant change to my DeviantArt Gallery. First of all I'd like to express my humble apologies and deepest thanks to all my watchers, who were enjoying my recent obsessions with fan art on Superman, Doctor Who and Blake's 7, along with my various explorations of Star Trek fan art during my 12 year stay here on DeviantArt. As 'The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' says, 'Don't Panic'. I havenotdeleted my entire gallery, that would have taken months. I have put them into storage for the time being. You can do this by using the link:- www.deviantart.com/managedeviations DeviantArt used to have a control button for this function, but neglected to add it to Eclipse, however the function still exists and it allows you bulk control over your gallery. Why this sudden stance against 'AI image generation'?

It hasn't been that 'sudden' to be honest. It has been building for a while, a few weeks back I noticed my favourite artist has taken their gallery down, then I noticed another had done the same and I didn't understand why. Then I learned how this 'AI image generation' actually works and I was instantly reminded of late 2021, early 2022, when a friend alerted me to the site OpenSea allowing it's users to make NFTs out of stolen art. My Blake's 7 fan art among them. That incident put my off posting anything on DeviantArt for months, I added a Core Membership to my account in hopes it would protect my art in the future, but it's only in the past few months that I've started to feel comfortable posting art on a regular basis. Now I discover that not only is anything I post fodder for this soulless 'AI image generation' software, but DeviantArt is actively encouraging it by making it's own version of the software, instead of making it's website efficient, accessible and creating a friendly, welcoming environment for people to share their artistic endeavours.

Over the past few years I have wanted to move towards making more original artwork, learning how to properly 3D model so that I can build my own spaceships, characters and environments, developing my own Sci-Fi & Fantasy universes, that I can have complete creative freedom to play in. However, to post the progress of such project, even in a 'work-in-progress' format is just foolish, you are just begging for someone to come along and rip you off, if it isn't the NFT folks, then it's the 'AI image generation' software, and if they don't some shit-head in Hollywood will rip you off.

In this hostile and toxic online environment, is it any wonder I'm having issues posting even 'fan art'. So what am I going to do? I'll still be here faving the artwork I like, but posting-wise you're not going to see much from me other than the 'Notoai' protest placard. I am going to use this opportunity to go through my gallery and download back-up files of images that I lost in a hard-drive crash a few years back.

Stolen Art

1 min read

There is a collection over on this site that has a lot of art that is clearly stolen from fellow artists over here on Deviant Art.

If you can spare a moment, submit a ticket of complaint to the site. Links below.

Hey folks, you know as the old saying goes. It ain't over until it's over!

Star Trek Discovery shares some interesting similarities with the game Tardigrades, independently created by Anas Abdin from 2014 onwards.

After seeking an explaination for this from CBS, who gave Anas the runaround for a year and essentially blew him off.  Anas was forced to seek legal action just to get CBS to take him seriously.

Now he's forced to appeal the judge's decision from the other week.  The appeal is going to cost and for the first time in this whole ordeal Anas has asked for help.

I put my donation in last night.  If you can, please make a donation, if not, please share this on your social media and get the word around.

Why am I so invested in this?  Because what Anas Abdin is going through with this is one of my greatest nightmares, and I can't say I'd handle it with as much class as he has.

Sooner or later it's gonna happen to us.

Mirror Caliburn by celticarchie

As the Caliburn Universe has differences with other versions of the Star Trek Universe.  So does it's Mirror counterpart.  Keeping it simple whatever is 'good' in Caliburn, is 'evil' in the Mirror. For example; a Tribble is not a soothing furry blob, but a scaly blob with poisoned spines and a mouth full of razor-like teeth.  With regard to the various races and civilisations, these tend to retain core traits, but tend to choose difference historical paths with these traits.

The history of The Terran Empire begins with The Vulcan Sovereignty.  Expanding from their home world the Vulcans conquer the Tellar System with relative ease, integrating the Tellarite civilisation into the Sovereignty as a labour force, this became instrumental in dealing with the Sovereignty's next conquest... Andor.  The Andorians showed more resistance, but ultimately the Sovereignty's greater numbers and through cold Vulcan tactics the Andorians also surrender.

Meanwhile... on a planet called Earth, but known as Terra.  A coup using genetically augmented soldiers has led the entire planet into a brutal civil war, but the native inhabitants prevailed at significant cost. Prompting the aggressive Terran push into interstellar space.  Conquering two races outright.  The Caitians and Denobulans, before destroying a perceived Romulan invasion.  The Terran Empire quickly became a serious match for The Vulcan Sovereignty.

For years the two superpowers were poised on the edge of all out war.  However, both sides came to understand that war would be equally devastating and that neither side would be able to consider the conflict a success. It was decided to join the two governments, a lesser known house of Vulcan Royalty would be married to a Terran Imperial family of equal stature.

Within four decades The Terran Empire had taken dominance in the alliance. This did not affect The Vulcan Sovereignty in the negative, on the contary, the Vulcans saw the Terran ambition as a positive driving force for the new alliance, it relieved them of the pressure of maintaining dominance over their subjects and allowed to concentrate their efforts on research and support.
