Stationside by celticarchie Stationside by celticarchie
Anyone who know me, knows I hate re-imagined Connies/Enterprises. So a few weeks back I set a poll on which of the Alternate vessels I should have a go at rendering, in an attempt to gain an appreciation for them. (Yeah right...ain't gonna happen.)

Starfield Stock by aRchAng3lZz.
Enterprise by WileyCoyote, Design Gabriel Koerner. Converted by me.

Great angle and a cool Connie. Hadn't seen this one before, I think?

Pretty recent. Part of my abortive 'Ri-imagined connies' project...it just wasn't as fun as the 'Neglected starships' poll. I'm gonna post the good renders of them just when I think I got some good ones. :)

I am solidly with you as far as "reimaginings." Which is why I was surprised by madkoifishes redesign. It is the only one I do like.

I think it's mainly to do with balance and thinking out the design as if it's a real spaceship. :)

I think people forget how realistically the original Enterprise was designed. They see the plywood and cardboard look of the sets and the plain finish of the model and they dismiss it. :(

In doing so they miss the sense and grace of the design, how the engines are set away from the ship, the modular design, crew area and engineering area separate sections so if there's a problem things can be jettisoned, access is internal minimising EVA (normally back then TV show/movies didn't think in real terms like that), the circular layout of the bridge with the captain in the centre so he/she can see everything going on at each station and communicate with every officer, having communication directly behind the captain so he/she can impart any important message to the captain, without the entire bridge crew hearing.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here :) , but I think it's something people a missing, and it shows, especially in ST 2009 it definitely shows.

Oddly enough, that's the second time I have heard something similar described like that recently. Just answering your questions though, in order. :shakefish:
