Sanjay Williams frowned at the readings coming from his scanner, without turning from the scrolling before his eyes he said. "Captain. I am reading some kind of sub-space..." He was momentarily caught off guard as the deck of the Excalibur suddenly pitched.
"What the hell was that?" Kelly Blaise, swung around in her seat, noticing that those crew members standing were having to hang onto railings and consoles, even those seated were having to hold on.
Williams recovered himself to say. "Some kind of sub-space tear has appeared a co-ordinates 137 mark 25, it's more like some kind of sink hole. It's pulling us in!"
"Helm get us out of here, any direction warp one!"
Corban deftly handled the helms controls, but shook his head almost immediately. "It's no good Captain. I can't establish a stable warp field. She's handling like a moose with an elephant on her back." He glanced at Tigri a navigation, then said quickly. "Switching to manual, full impulse." At the touch of a switch two small joysticks flipped out of conceal panels on the console. Corban took hold of them, his eyes widening as he felt the Excalibur buck and heave, fighting his control.
Blaise turned once again to Williams. "Any ideas?"
Williams nodded. "Our own warp nacelles are acting like magnets. I recommend we shut down all warp power and vent the nacelles of drive plasma. It should at least smooth us out."
Blaise nodded and turned to Seytek at engineering. "Ensign, prepare to vent drive plasma and initiate emergency warp drive shut down."
To be continued...

They might have just encountered the first traces in the universe of warp drive taking a toll on the space-time continuum. What was the name of that one TNG episode where the chief subject of that episode was discovering serious side-effects warp drive usage was causing to space itself?
Cool background. What's your source on the twisty energy doo-dad? Not sure the motion blur really works here. I think there's enough "implied swoosh" without it.
Twisty energy doo-dad thingermegig came from this guys store, [link] specifically here, [link] the tendrils whisping off were a brush set by the same vendor I can't find the specific link , with a load of Gaussian blurring, of blobs and toned down lens flares.
I was going more for a judder than a swoosh, I might be able to play with that a little.
